PESHAWAR: A steep increase in prices of essential food commodities including live chicken/meat, flour, vegetables, pulses, cooking oil/ghee, fruits and others was witnessed in the local market, according to a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.
A one-kg live chicken is being sold at Rs280/- per kg, while price of farm eggs are increasing with rising chill weather, as available at Rs260 per dozen against the price of Rs220/- per dozen in the previous week, while Chinese red coloured eggs are available at Rs 300-350/- per dozen, the survey noted.
Similarly, it was observed that price of cow meat also remained high-side as available at Rs700/- per kg while mutton was available at Rs 1600-1700/- per kg in the local market.
Price of vegetable are kept rising in the local market as rates changing on daily basis in the local market, told vegetable merchant to this scribe. They attributed vegetables to have increased owing to huge damages of crops in the recent floods, as the country is depending on some items of veggies on import from Afghanistan.
Tomatoes are available at Rs250-260 per kg, while one-kg onion was available at Rs160/- in the local market, the survey witnessed. Ginger was being sold at Rs450/- per kg while garlic price also remained high-side, selling at Rs250-300/- per kg in the local market.
Likewise, according to the survey, the price of other veggies remained sky-rocketed in the local market. Peas are available at Rs400/- per kg, capsicum at Rs250/- per kg, ladyfinger at Rs150/- per kg, arvi at Rs150/- per kg, cabbage at Rs120/- per kg, cauliflower at Rs150/- per kg, bitter gourd at Rs 150-200/- per kg, long gourd at Rs120/- per kg, tinda at Rs100/- per kg, tori at Rs150/- per kg, bringle at Rs100/- per kg, turnip at Rs120.
Old-seasoned potatoes are available at Rs90 per kg, while fresh red-colored potatoes available at Rs70/- per kg while white-coloured potatoes are sold at Rs60/- per kg, the survey added. It furthermore noticed green chili was available at Rs200/- per kg, lemon at Rs150/- per kg, cucumber at Rs70-80/- per kg, carrots at Rs70/- per kg and radish at Rs30-40 per bundle.
According to the market-survey, it noted prices of pulses/food grains remained unchanged in the local market. A good quality (sela) price is being sold Rs290/- per kg while low –quality rice was available at Rs 230-240/- per kg, dal mash at Rs400/- per kg, dal masoor at Rs280/- per kg, dal chilka (black) Rs260/- per kg, dal chilka (green) Rs220/- per kg, moonge at Rs200/- per kg, dhoti dal at Rs280/- per kg, dal channa at Rs260/- per kg, white lobiya at Rs220/240 per kg, gram flour (baisen) at Rs180/200- per kg, the survey said.
In a visit to Peshawar’s wholesale and retail markets by this scribe, it is witnessed that flour prices remained unchanged. According to the survey, Price of a 20-KG fine flour bag has jumped at Rs2250/- and Danedar flour Rs2100/- while other quality flour was available at Rs1500-1700/- and Rs2000. Similarly, it was further revealed that the price of a 80-KG flour sac has increased at Rs9080/- which was available at Rs9000/- in the previous week.
