LAHORE: Former leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) Hamid Zaman on Monday withdrew his post-arrest bail petition from a sessions court in ‘foreign’ funding case registered by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against several leaders of the party.
Earlier, his counsel told the court that the sessions court lacked jurisdiction to hear the matter after the FIA inserted an offence under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1947 in the FIR. He said now the bail petition would be filed before a special court.
The FIR alleged that Ashiq Hussain Qureshi got registered a bogus trust in the name of “The Insaf Trust” as its chairman, giving an impression that same is part of the PTI. Hamid Zaman was its deputy chairman, Manzoor Ahmad Chaudhry general secretary and Mubashir Ahmad trustees.
The FIA alleged that the funding received in the trust was used for political campaigns of the PTI.
