ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Marriyum Aurangzeb on Monday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman, Imran Khan, brought the country's debt to Rs45,000 billion.
Addressing a press conference, she said Mr Khan took the largest loan in the country's history of 75 years.
“In 75 years of our history, no government has taken as much debt as Khan,” the federal information minister added. Moreover, he angered friendly countries, she said.
Imran Khan is trying to create chaos and political instability in the country, she alleged.
Khan ruled over the people of Pakistan for four years and during his tenure, the economy suffered. He brought the country close to bankruptcy.
Khan played with Kashmir and created stories of corruption and looting just to stay in power.
Khan lost two of his own eight seats in the by-election, she added.
Winning the by-election did not mean that they got a license to invade the federation, the minister said.
She said Imran Khan should not attack the federal government thinking the law enforcement agencies and police of Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were under him.
Karachi and Multan by-election was a referendum against Khan.
Khan had won six seats in the by-elections, should he insult the Election Commission now? she asked.
When they win the election, they are silent, when the decision is against them, they insult them, she added.
Why did Imran Khan not mention the name of “X, Y, and Z” in his press conference today, she asked while saying Imran Khan was worried about the appointment of the army chief.
Earlier, in a news statement, she said the by-election's results had shattered the narrative of a “foreign-funded fitna”.
She questioned the rationale behind the narrative pursued by Khan against state institutions after his win on six seats of the National Assembly in the recently-held by-polls.
“Will the absolute fraud demand resignation of the chief election commissioner in his press conference today? Will the foreign agent make a speech against the “neutrals” today?” she said while posing a series of questions to Imran Khan.
She said whether the “thief” of Toshakhana name the "Mr X" and "Mr Y" today. Would Imran Khan continue to target the chief election commissioner by hurling abuse, threats and accusations at him, the minister inquired.
Marriyum questioned Imran Khan for celebrating the PTI’s further loss of two seats in the Parliament. Khan still lacks the magic number—172 which was required to oust an incumbent government.
She said Imran Khan could not dictate the government and the Parliament after losing two of his own seats in the by-polls.
He could not change the government by attacking the Federal Capital and creating anarchy in the country.
The minister said Imran Khan did not get the license to launch an assault on Islamabad after winning six seats in the election.
“PTI has become a one-man party which has no candidate other than Imran Khan,” she added.
