Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Senior Minister for Planning and Development Rahimdad Khan lauded the role of engineers' community in restoring the infrastructure in the province during natural disasters like floods and earthquakes and expressed the confidence that our engineers would endeavour to further enhance their capabilities in all spheres of development so that the dream of a developed and prosperous nation could be realised in real.
He was addressing as chief guest at concluding ceremony of training workshop for capacity building of the officers and officials of nation building departments. It was organised by Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and Provincial Communication and Works (C&W) Department at local hotel in Peshawar.
Besides others Engr. Syed Abdulqadir Shah, Chairman PEC and Engr. Zahid Arif, Secretary C&W and Vice-Chairman PEC, also addressed the workshop and highlighted importance of the continuing training programme for engineers.
Rahimdad paid rich tributes to nation building departments of the province especially engineers of C&W department for immediately restoring the destroyed infrastructure in devastating floods of 2010 and incidents of terrorism as well as eulogised viable role of Engr. Zaid Arif in this regard. He contended that engineers of C&W, PHE and Irrigation departments always performed efficiently to deliver to the masses.
The Senior Minister while highlighting development steps of his government said that special focus was given to reduce the impacts of continuous terrorism and flash floods of the past and hence lion share of resources was spent on it. However, he said that drastic steps are being taken for future developmental needs besides other sectors of public interest that also included enhancing exploration of the hydro-power, oil and gas resources.
He said considerable progress has been made in this respect as continued increase is observed in the income of oil and gas. Similarly a number of mega hydro-power projects were launched in the province.
He said that 2,100MW would be added to the power supply sector after completion of these projects that would not only resolve the load shedding problem but also income resources of the province would be increased. Similarly, it would also revive the industrial and commercial activities in the province, he added.
Rahimdad Khan said that size of the ADP has been increased many times for over all development. He said that capacity building of the nation building departments is the need of the hour due to such developments which are focused from the very beginning. He hoped that all the departments would continue with serving the masses devotedly in future as well and would utilise their experience and capabilities in this regards.
Engr. Zahid Arif, Secretary C&W in his address said engineering sector requires research and update due to its role in all sectors of life and sciences including medical equipment, industrial and agricultural machinery, roads, bridges, canals, buildings and gardens, etc.
He termed steps of the Chief Minister as historical in respect of encouraging and training of engineers and other experts as well as enhancing the engineering related ADP by 75 percent.
Abdul Qadir Shah Chairman PEC said that Islam is the pioneer of engineering and by then we could convert our downfall into the renaissance of Muslim Ummah by again achieving these skills. He lauded the KP government and thanked the Chief Minister for providing time scale and other incentives to the engineers' community of the province much earlier than the centre and other provinces.
