Interior Minister, Rehman Malik said on Sunday that transparent and thorough probe would be conducted into garments factory fire incident. He assured that no one would be harassed but it would be ascertained as to how this incident occurred and what was the reason?
Talking to media persons after visiting fire-affected garments factory in Baldia Town, he made it clear that those found responsible would not be spared and would be brought to book.
He said that he would not rule out `element of sabotage' and added this was the second biggest industrial fire incident after the one that occurred in 1911 in the United States with 259 deaths.
He said it seemed that `there was an element of terrorism' in this incident. "What were the intentions and who was behind this and at what level will come to the fore," after the investigation, he added.
The Interior Minister said that it is also being investigated whether the Fire Brigade arrived at the scene late, besides assessing the capacity of personnel and availability of water for the purpose.
"We would also forward our recommendations to the provincial government", he added.
He referred to the directives given by the Prime Minister on Friday and added that a survey would also be conducted in this regard. He said the provision of fire safety and exit point, etc would have to be looked into for averting such incidents in future.
He said he would convene a meeting on Tuesday to discuss different aspects of fire security and strict implementation of relevant laws.
The Minister said that "we would have to ensure that there is exit point in every building."
Referring to the garments factory fire incident, he said he has looked into the actual situation on the ground and there are certain things that would have to be probed further.
He said that "we have also found some video footage giving some insight" into the incident.
