Prime Minister's appearance in court: President doesn't take PPP Punjab leadership into confidence
President Asif Ali Zardari has not taken up the issue of Prime Minister's appearance in the Supreme Court with PPP Punjab leadership during his recent visit to Lahore, said sources. According to the party sources, the President spent three hours with the party leadership at the Governor House where he instructed them to start preparation for elections besides hoping that next Chief Minister in Punjab would be a Jyala.
However, said the sources, President Zardari did not take up the issue of Prime Minister's appearance in the apex court on writing letter to the Swiss courts for reopening money laundering cases against him. PPP Secretary General Aziz-ur-Rehman Chan confirmed the reports and said no such matter came under discussion during the meeting, adding the whole focus was on the local bodies' elections as well as general elections in the country.
However, he disagreed with the impression that the President had no confidence on the Punjab leadership and restricted himself to the point that he was confirming what the President had taken up with the PPP Punjab leadership during his meeting at the Governor House. Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf is due to appear before the Supreme Court to apprise of the court on Tuesday (today) about his serious efforts in ensuring an amicable solution to the issue.
