Local traders hailing from different markets and bazaars have voice concern over the pathetic and faulty sanitation system, which was caused huge losses to them in the recent rains, demanding for refurbishment of sanitation and sewerage lines and de-silting in different canals and water stream along side the bazaars.
The concerns were shown by the traders during a meeting held with District Co-ordinator Officer, Peshawar Javed Khan Marwat at Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry under its president Afan Aziz in chair here on Monday. Those, who attend the meeting included presidents and general secretaries of traders unions, and associations. On the occasion, Director Javed Anwar, SCCI vice president Abid Salam, Dr Mohammad Yousaf Sarwar, Safi Bashir Ahmad Durani, and the chamber executive members and along with a large number of traders were present.
SCCI president, Afan Aziz while in his welcome address informed the meeting about the concern of business community and traders regarding the poor sanitation system in Peshawar. He said that rain water inundated in bazaars was not only caused huge financial losses to traders, but also masses faced difficulties in shopping. He pointed out that the cement industries were used the solid-waste for fuel and other alternative purpose, therefore there was needed to take up issue with the firms to tackle with it, he suggested.
Regarding the growing encroachment in bazaars and markets, he expressed concern over harassment of business community during the anti-encroachment drive. However, he said that SCCI and business community would extend every kind of co-operation to erase encroachment. He also raised the traffic issues in city and cantonment areas. Javed Khan Marwat, DCO Peshawar, while responding to reservations of traders, said that district administration had devised a mechanism to improve the sanitation and sewerage system. "The situation will get better within next few days after proper execution of the plan", he informed.
