Corruption and irregularities are rampant in Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority (PSQCA) so much so that even the equipment and installations of the authority's offices are now being stolen. During the shifting of offices recently, a large number of equipments/valuables like electric fans, Air-conditions, cables and other samples of laboratory items in the stores of PSQCA were stolen.
"Cable purchased for a lift at Gulistan-e-Johar office, which could only be lifted by heavy machinery, has been stolen from the new office, with a serious question mark over the involvement of the authority's own staffs," sources told Business Recorder. According to sources, almost 100 electric fans, which were handed over by a contractor to install newly built office, have also been stolen from the premises. Besides a large quantity of items collected for lab test has also been theft from store of the government organisation.
Interestingly, no FIR has been registered against the criminals so far however an interdepartmental enquiry team has been formed to probe the case. "This is the picture of the organisation where government rules and regulations are openly been violated," sources alleged saying that Ministry of Science and Technology, which supervises the organisation has apparently left PSQCA at the mercy of such blacksheeps.
Talking to this scribe, Babulani, who is Deputy Director and responsible to security issues at Johar Office of PSQCA said that enquiry about the theft cases was being initiated by the organisation. He however declined to share further details saying that secretary of PSQCA could comment on the issue. Interestingly, Ghulam Omar Kazi, Secretary PSQCA, claimed that no such things have happened in the authority. As he had visited the office a couple of days back, no theft cases was reported.
