The social media app Facebook has introduced two new features in Pakistan, one for helping others and the second for respecting your privacy.

Few days ago, Facebook introduced its facial recognition feature in Pakistan and a day ago it introduced a blood donation feature through which people can sign up and be blood donors for those in need.

Pakistan is one of those countries that have shortage of safe blood and finding blood donors can be a difficult thing. Facebook, through its new feature, aims to help connect donors with people and organization that need blood. Working together with non-profit organizations, health industry experts, potential donors and Facebook users, the company made sure that this feature would prove to be beneficial for people. A similar feature has also been launched in India and Bangladesh where, according to Tech Juice, around seven million signed up to donate blood.

Facebook jobs service spreading to more countries

On its homepage, Facebook provides an option donate blood where users can sign up either on their profile or by visiting a specific link. The information provided is kept private and by default is set to ‘Only Me’ that can be later changed by donors. Also, when someone needs a donation, Facebook will create special posts and will notify the donors, donors can further respond to the posts as per their wish. Also, donors would be notified when firms host blood donation camps anywhere in Pakistan.

Being available on Android, iOS and desktop, Head of Product, Health at Facebook, Hema Badaraju said, “We hope that by increasing awareness and providing tools for people and organizations in need to connect with those who are willing to help, we can make it easier for people to donate blood.”

The other facial recognition privacy feature was launched in Pakistan after being available in other markets. The feature works on similar AI tech that suggests tagged photos of friends. Users would be notified when their picture has been uploaded by anyone around the world on the app. Audio option has also been provided for the visually impaired users. The feature was launched to increase precautionary security measures fight the rising number of fake profiles and stolen images. This feature will also confine hacker from downloading user’s display pictures, reported Phone World.
