Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat-ul-Ibad Khan has said that the industrialists have agreed to adjust survivors of Baldia Town garment factory fire incident in their units. Inaugurating the newly-constructed road in North Karachi Industrial Area, he said that it has been further decided to create a fund in which industrials and government should contribute to provide financial assistant to those families who lost their bread earners in this fire incident.
It is further decided to carryout a joint survey of all the factories located in seven industrial estates of the city to ascertain lacuna in safety measures and rectify them as per international standards. He said that the incident was a national disaster and we all pray for early recovery of those who were injured and give courage to sustain this irreparable lose to those who have lost their near and dear ones in the fire.
The Governor said that the efforts would also be made to revive the unit so that exports should not get hurt as well as provide employment to the survivors of the incident. Referring to the resignation of Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce, Rauf Siddiqui, he appreciated his move and said that his resignation has been kept in hold till the inquiry is completed.
Regarding North Karachi's development work, the Governor assured the industrialists that he will approach the federal government to release Rs 250 million matching grant for each for infrastructure development work in four industrial estates. Provencal government had already released the grant, he added.
He directed administrator KMC to complete the remaining development work of the roads in North Karachi Industrial Estate. Chairman, North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry (NKATI), Abdul Rasheed Fodderwala has also demanded of the Governor that at least one fire brigade station should be established in all the seven industrial estates of the city. He emphasised the need that the government in collaboration of the associations should initiate programme of education for industrial workers about safety measures.
