Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qiam Ali Shah has directed the officials of health department to expedite efforts for timely completion of the uplift schemes of the health sector, adding that health and education are prioritised sectors for which huge amount has been allocated in the budget of current fiscal year 2012-13.
This he said while presiding over a high-level meeting to review the progress and pace of work on prioritised development schemes of health department at C.M House on Tuesday. The meeting was attended among others by Provincial Minister for Finance Syed Murad Ali Shah, Minister for Information Sharjeel Enam Memon, Minister for health Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Chief Secretary Sindh Raja Muhammad Abbass, Secretary (W&S) Qazi Shahid Parvez, Secretary (Health) Aftab Ahmed Khatri, Additional Chief Secretary Finance Arif Ahmed Khan, Principal Secretary to C.M. Muhammad Siddique Memon and others.
The Chief Minister asked the finance department to immediately release remaining funds for the schemes which are on the verge of completion so that these schemes could be completed without further delay. "You will have to show results within shortest possible time" Chief Minister directed the concerned officials.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah said that a huge amount of Rs 12 billion has been earmarked for 156 schemes of Health department in present financial year 2012-13. Out of total 156 uplifts schemes, 97 are ongoing while 59 are new schemes, he added. He said that uplifts schemes of Health department include trauma centre at Karachi, provision of CT Scan, MRI and X-Ray machines, establishment of drug testing laboratory providing facilities to district headquarter hospitals, taulka headquarter hospitals, rural health centres and dispensaries across the province.
Chief Minister directed the offices of health department to submit a priority list of uplift schemes within 02 days. He also asked them to ensure the quality of development work and proper utilisation of funds so that ultimate benefits of huge development amount could reach to the downtrodden people. He further said progress, performance and pace of the work on development activities will be reviewed in monthly meetings. "It is therefore necessary that all concerned department should make co-ordinated efforts to achieve the target as early as possible" Chief Minister directed.
Additional Chief Secretary Finance informed that Rs 838 million have been released to the health department so far and more funds will soon be released after the health department submit its prioritised list of development schemes.--PR
