Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Tuesday called a shutter-down and wheel-jam strike in the city in protest against the killing of former Liaquatabad Town Nazim Dr Pervaiz Mehmood and a countrywide protest against the anti-Islam film. JI also claimed the support of PML-N, PTI, JUI-F, JUP and ST political as well as traders associations on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference late evening, Chief of JI Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Mahenti, said the funeral prayers of a JI activist, Abdul Wahid, who was killed near Governor House, will be offered on Wednesday at Tibet Centre at 11 am. He demanded of the government to arrest the killers of former Liaquatabad Town Nazim Dr Pervez Mehmood, Khaleeq Ullah and Abdul Wahid, immediately. He termed the killing of JI activists a "worst" terrorism.
After returning from Chief Minister House, the protestors with Dr Pervez body on way near the Governor House came under gunfire which injured Abdul Wahid who latter succumbed to wounds on hospital way, he said. Slamming the PPP for its political reconciliatory policy, he said as a result, the city is growing with chaos and situation is deteriorating from bad to worse. "For the protection of Governor House, JI activist's blood was shed," he regretted.
He vowed the Governor and Chief Minister of Sindh will have to be made accountable for the killing of JI activists in the city. He said the recurrent killings of JI activists in the metropolis showed the PPP-led coalition government was been taken hostage by terrorists. "The JI leadership will not stay silent on the continued killing of its workers and will raise voice for the blood shed," he said. He warned the government of a serious reaction if it failed to arrest the killers.
Mahenti also condemned the bomb blasts in Hyderi market, killing a number of innocent people. On the occasion, JI local leader, Nasarullah Shaji held Governor Sindh responsible for killing of Abdul Wahid. Talking to Business Recorder, President of All Pakistan Organisation of Small Traders and Cottage Industries (Karachi Chapter), Mehmood Hamid extended support to the JI's strike on Wednesday. He said the traders will keep their business shut in protest against anti-Islam film and target killings in Karachi. He said the PPP-led Sindh government had failed to stem violence in the city.
