Minister for Interior Rehman Malik on Wednesday strongly condemned the publication of blasphemous material against Islam, saying the government stands united with nation in the protest against the negative movie.
Talking to media persons after the inaugural session of a peace conference organised by Bardasht organisation here, he asked the nation, Ulema and religious parties to protest in a peaceful manner and said Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) will also join the protest demonstrations on Friday against the anti-Islam film.
"It is not a matter of one sect but that of the entire Muslim Ummah," he said and added the entire nation was one as far as the sanctity of Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) is concerned. The Minister appealed to the United Nations to frame laws to stop publication and circulation of blasphemous material against Islam. Rehman Malik said "blasphemous movie is a conspiracy against the personality of our Holy Prophet (PBUH) and we strongly condemn its contents. Expressing disrespect over belief of others is not allowed in any religion and such incidents cause hatred and destruction in society." Answering a question, Rehman Malik said he would also brief the Cabinet about steps taken to block the blasphemous material on the Internet.
About the situation in Karachi, the Minister said due to effective security measures several terror plots had been thwarted and added "our enemy is out to de-stabilise Pakistan by triggering unrest on ethnic and sectarian basis. We are fully alive to the situation and all available resources will be utilised to foil their designs."
Mobile phones were being used in the terrorism related incidents, he said and added to avert them the government was preparing a policy in consultation with all stakeholders. He also asked the western countries to stop favouring enemies of Pakistan and such elements should not be given political asylum. Bardasht organisation has arranged a series of conferences and this was the last conference, aimed at discussing and evaluating the present situation and to prepare recommendations to ensure peace in the country.
