The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday restrained sale of CDs containing blasphemous material and to air such material through cable network. The court passed these directions in a petition filed by Almi Majls-e-Tahafuz-e-Khatm-e-Nabuwat against anti-Islam movie that hurt the feelings of millions of Muslims all over the world.
The court issued notices to Chairman Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and both interior and foreign secretaries for October 5th and directed Attorney General to assist the court.
Arguing before the court, the petitioner's counsel argued that PTA did not show its responsibility regarding the blasphemous video as the links were yet available on Internet and Youtube to hurt the Muslims. The counsel said officers of the authority concerned were equally responsible for their alleged negligence. He said the matter should be taken at high-level as it was attempted to destabilise world peace.
He said pictures, movies and dramas on the lives of all prophets were not allowed in the light of order of Federal Shariat Court. But it was Chairman Pemra under whose authority all such video and films made on the lives of prophets, were being broadcast on cable network all over the country, he said.
The petitioner prayed to the court that all mediums for such blasphemous material including CDs, videos, pictures, dramas and movies should be banned and their sale should also be stopped. He further prayed that an inquiry teams should be appointed to look into the matter and officers who were responsible for the existence of blasphemous movie and other materials should be punished.
