Punjab Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Malik Ahmad Ali announced that water cess, agricultural income tax and land tax of flood-hit villages of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur Districts will be waived off while payment of agricultural loans will also be deferred for the current year.
This was claimed by him while speaking at a briefing of officers busy in relief activities in D.G. Khan and Rajanpur areas. The Minister attended the meeting after visiting flood relief camps. He said that the Punjab government would never leave the flood-affected persons alone in their time of need. He said relief activities will continue till complete rehabilitation of the affected victims.
He also directed the survey teams constituted for loss assessment to submit their reports at the earliest so as the process of giving financial assistance, announced by the Punjab government, should be started. Malik Ahmad Ali also directed the officers to immediately restore the affected roads and pay special attention on vaccination and treatment of human beings and animals. He said that treatment should be ensured through mobile units of those marooned in flood water.
Officers of the Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, Irrigation and other departments also briefed the Minister about relief activities and loss in the flood-hit areas. It was informed that 38 relief camps and 12 mobile teams are working in Dera Ghazi Khan while 15 flood relief camps and four mobile teams are working in Rajanpur.
The meeting was informed that 170 roads of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur are affected due to recent floods while 42 roads have been reopened after repair while rest of the roads will be restored in next three days. Fisheries department said that fish farms spread over 300 acres were hit due to the floods; therefore, in these areas fish worth Rs 30 million went waste in the floodwaters.
