Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Wednesday out rightly rejected claims of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), saying neither the party was contacted nor it has proposed any name for the caretaker prime minister. Talking to Business Recorder, PTI central secretary information Shafqat Mehmood said it was astonishing to hear that the opposition leader in National Assembly is fabricating statements regarding the PTI, fearing of its growing popularity.
He said that neither anybody approached the party nor any name was suggested for prime minister of the caretaker government by the PTI. "If and when the party is consulted, and it should be, the party would discuss the matter thoroughly and then suggest some names. Until then PML-N should stop playing politics," he added.
Mehmood maintained that the PTI will not allow both major political parties - PPP, PML-N - to bargain on the issue of caretaker set-up. The political parties outside parliament should also be consulted as we all want free and fair election, he added. "If the government did not give importance to the opinion of PTI and all other political parties that are in and outside the parliament, the nation will reject the caretaker government", he asserted. He said that we never demanded that the PTI should be part of the interim government but we only want an impartial interim government for transparent and fair elections. The PTI leader said that the PPP has started attack on judiciary just to save one man and to cover up its failures.
He claimed that PTI had emerged as most popular party in the country, adding that the PPP government had completely failed to steer the country out of present crisis, confronting the country. When asked for comments a senior PML-N leader stuck to his guns and maintained that the party would not consult PTI leadership for caretaker set up until and unless it accepted its mistake and withdraws allegations against his person.
"There is no point to lie, why should we lie that we contacted PTI. We stated this because we'd contacted them [and] now after they have refused to accept any contact between PTI and PML-N was made, so we are not going to consult them next time", he added.
