Security has been beefed up in Diplomatic Enclave in the wake of protests held in the federal capital against the anti-Islam movie clip to avert the possibility of any act of sabotage, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Qamar Zaman Kaira said on Wednesday.
Addressing a press conference after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday, Kaira said that a group of lawyers, who were protesting against the blasphemous movie clip, have attempted to enter the Diplomatic Enclave, but law-enforcement agencies stopped them outside the 'Red Zone'.
Urging the protesters to keep their protest peaceful, the minister said that the government also condemned the heinous act in strongest possible terms and people should not destroy government and private properties. When asked why the government did not announce such a holiday after massive deaths in factory fires in Karachi and Lahore, Kaira said that athough both incidents were national tragedies, the blasphemous movie issue had "greater importance for Muslims", even for the families of those who died in the fires, as "Muslims do not make compromises on the respect of their Holy Prophet (PBUH) at any cost".
Hence, he said that it would be "quite unfair" to compare reaction to Karachi and Lahore factory fires with the reaction to the Anti-Islam movie. According to Kaira, the Sindh government was investigating the Karachi factory blaze, as it was a provincial matter and the federal government could not interfere in this regard. However, the federal government would take action against persons responsible in the light of the report to be prepared by the provincial government.
