Not only in the offices of the private sector but thin attendance was also observed in state-run-offices located in Sindh Secretariat's all buildings due to the tension which gripped Karachi after the strike call by Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Wednesday. JI announced a strike call to register their protest against the brutal killing of the JI leader Dr Pervez Mehmood, who was also former town Nazim Liaquatabad.
Business Recorder observed that a large number of officers, employees of Sindh government, working in various offices located in all buildings of the Sindh Secretariat were absent. Lower-grade employees of Sindh Secretariat come to office on local transport while a large number of officers and employees have four-wheel vehicles and motor bikes for this purpose.
However, local transport disappeared from the roads of the metropolis while all petrol and CNG stations also remained closed. That's why a large number of officers, employees were not able to attend their offices. When this scribe visited provincial government's offices situated at the Sindh Secretariat (Tughlaq House), very sparse attendance of officers and employees was witnessed. The offices of Secretaries Home, Planning and Development (P&D), Agriculture, Education, Irrigation, Sports, Coal and Energy, Labour, Excise and Taxation and Local Government are situated at different floors of Tughlaq House.
Similarly, official work remained suspended in the seven-story building of the new Sindh Secretariat where offices of many ministers, including senior minister for Education, Works and Services, Food, Women Development, Irrigation and Finance are situated. Sindh Chief Secretary's office is also part of that (New Sindh Secretariat) building which is located on the first floor with strict security measures.
Another building of the Sindh Secretariat known as the KDA building, is located near the RTO building, where offices of Anti Corruption Establishment, Zakat and Ushr, Population Welfare, Social Welfare, Culture, Housing, Inter Provincial Co-ordination and other departments are situated. Similarly, thin attendance was also observed in the Sindh Government Barracks where the offices of Information, Power, Labour, Finance, Health, Forest, Zakat and Ushr, Excise and Taxation, Home and others are established.
