Slain member of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI), Abdul Wahid was laid to rest in a local graveyard in Malir Town amid tears and sobs on Wednesday. Chief of JI Sindh, Asadullah Bhutto offered the funeral prayer of Abdul Wahid on main M.A. Jinnah Road. He was killed on Tuesday by police near Governor House. Hundreds of JI activists and relatives and friends of the deceased attended the funeral.
He along other protesters were coming back from the CM House after lodging a protest against the target-killing of party's key member, Dr Pervez Mehmood. Asadullah Bhutto after concluding the prayers paid tribute to slain Dr Pervez Mehmood and Abdul Wahid for their life-long struggle against the social evils. "They sacrificed their lives in struggle against injustice. Both were brave personalities and were punished for their struggle against terrorist elements," he said.
He demanded of the government to sack the Governor Sindh and begin a judicial probe against him for the killing of JI activist. "On the directives of Governor Sindh, police opened indiscriminate fire at calm JI protesters," he said. Criticising the police for clamping down on JI workers, he said nearly 100 activists were arrested so far from their houses. He said the police attempt was aimed to fail the JI strike in the city. Chief of JI Karachi, Muhammad Hussain Mehnati alleged the police for killing Abdul Wahid. He said Pervez Mehmood was also killed by the same hands.
