Catholic Board of Education (CBE) of the Archdiocese of Karachi has announced that all schools and colleges under its management will remain closed on Friday, September 21, in protest against the video-film that has hurt the feelings of Muslims in Pakistan.
The announcement was made by Vicar-General of the archdiocese of Karachi and CBE Vice President Rev Fr Benny Travas, at a meeting of the principals held here. There are more than 90 percent Muslim students on the rolls of CBE schools and colleges in Karachi.
The vicar-general said, "The Christian/Catholic community of Karachi and Pakistan in general is deeply disturbed by the provocation caused by the anti-Muslim video film and strongly condemns the movie. As a mark of protest against the making and airing of this film and in respect for the feelings of our Muslim brethren, students and teachers, the management of the Catholic Board of Education has decided to close all its schools and colleges on Friday."
In addition to the closure, the principals, faculty and students of all CBE schools and colleges will offer special prayers at the daily morning assemblies on Thursday, September 20 to foster peace and forgiveness among all peoples and nations. Special prayers and intentions were also offered by the religious and the community at all Sunday Masses in churches throughout the city.
