At least 10 people were killed and 20 others, including children and women, were injured in a powerful car bomb blast here at the Scheme Chowk on the Kohat Road on Wednesday. Eye-witnesses said that the actual target of the explosion was a van of the Pakistan Air Force, which was damaged in the attack. The injured, 12 of them said to be in critical condition, were rushed to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and other hospitals in the provincial metropolis.
A PAF spokesperson in Islamabad confirmed that a PAF van was hit in the attack, adding three civilian officials of PAF are being treated at the Combined Military Hospital in Peshawar. According to initial reports, 30-40 kilograms of explosive material was detonated with a remote-controlled device. The explosion was so powerful that it damaged several road side shops.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Masood Kausar condemned the terrorist attack at Badhber near Peshawar on Wednesday and expressed his deep shock and sorrow oveer the loss of precious lives In his condolence message, the Governor described it a worst act of inhumanity and terrorism. Elements involved in the heinous crime deserved to be taken task at the earliest and no effort will be spared to bring them to justice, the Governor said.
Expressing sympathies with members of the bereaved families, the Governor said that the nation will always feel proud on the courageous role of its security forces. He has also prayed for granting eternal peace of the departed souls and courage to the bereaved families to bear irreparable loss with patience. He has also wished early recovery of the injured.
