ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Nong Rong on Monday reviewed achievements made under bilateral relations in 2022 and agreed to maintain the momentum in 2023.

In a tweet, the foreign minister stated: “Delighted to receive Ambassador Nong today. Reviewed achievements of Pakistan-China relations in past year and agreed to maintain momentum in 2023 through: high-quality development of CPEC; stronger people-to-people contacts and accelerate post-flood reconstruction to build back better.”

Several fundamental questions regarding CPEC are not being answered (1) How is Pakistan going to fund the remaining CPEC projects this year with almost no foreign reserves? (2) Even if China funds them fully, what is the Cost-benefit of paying interest and loan payments (3) If Gwadar, despite billions in investments, has not produced economic development, what are the prospects of the rest of the project producing economic development? There has been a lot of talk and announcements from Pakistan and China, but this CPEC is turning more into a propaganda project than a real economically viable project. A project built with China money, China labor, and China parts, with China interest , is not going to create the millions of jobs it promises.
