The Ulema from various schools of thought vehemently condemned the sacrilegious film at a meeting held at the Governor House here on Friday evening. The Governor Sindh, Dr Ishrat ul Ebad Khan, presided over the meeting. He later told media persons that the Ulema strongly condemned the acts of violence.
The Governor said that Ulema referring to the teachings of Islam, which is a religion of peace and amity, and the love for the Holy Prophet (PBUH), unanimously stated that one should protest against the sacrilegious film but this should be peaceful protest and that the lives, property of the people and the country must not be harmed, He stated that at today's meeting at the Governor House, the Ulema strongly expressed their feelings and vehemently condemned the sacrilegious film.
Dr Ishrat said that the Ulema in the meeting recorded their protest against the sacrilegious film. He stated that the Ulema also came up with various suggestions and recommendations that the issue should be raised at the international forum so that the entire would should come to know that the sacrilegious film has hurt the feelings of all the Muslims the world over. On the occasion, the Governor also thanked the Ulema who attended the meeting.
Representing the Ulema from various schools of thought, Mufti Muhammad Rafi Usmani informed that several suggestions have been adopted at the meeting. He said that a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) be convened and the United Nations be stressed to legislate an international law and any sacrilege be considered a major crime and those committing it be given exemplary punishment.
Mufti Rafi Usmani said that Governor Sindh has decided to form a committee consisting of legal experts as well as Ulema jointly prepare the initial draft for such a law. He said that the Ulema were unanimous that the Government of Pakistan by observing the day of `Ishq-i-Rasool (PBUH)' has taken a good step to share the sentiments and feelings of the Muslims. Mufti Rafi Usmani said that the Muslims are protesting against the sacrilegious film but the protest should be peaceful and restraint be exercised and there should not be any element of violence in it as this is contrary to the Islamic teachings.
