Karachi-based former Pakistan Test cricketer Haroon Rashid has been appointed as chairman of the men’s National Selection Committee. The Chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Najam A. Sethi has reportedly said: “I want to congratulate Haroon Rashid and hope he will use his cricket knowledge, understanding and background while picking squads for the upcoming international assignments.” Haroon previously served as Pakistan’s chief selector between 2015-16. He belongs to a family of cricketers.

According to ESPN cricinfo, Haroon was a Jekyll and Hyde batsman. Haroon is widely known for his managing skills in the ‘corridors’ of PCB in particular because of his very long association with the cricket board after his retirement in 1983 after playing 23 Tests and 12 ODIs. 70-year-old Haroon Rashid must not lose sight of the fact that what actually matters prior to the arrival of team in the ground is the selection process.

He’s, therefore, required to expend all of his energies towards the goal of selecting best possible teams for present and future encounters. This will require him to work harder, reaching out to each and every player in a highly professional manner. His approach to selection of players must be characterised by only one criterion: merit.
