Members of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Law and Justice Tuesday compelled reluctant Law Ministry to submit details of salaries, perks and privileges of superior judges. The law Ministry was reluctant to share the details with the committee but the insistence of members to submit the details of the current salary along with perks and privileges of Supreme Court and High courts judges forced the official of Law Ministry to present the information to the committee.
Eventually, senior officials of Law Ministry submitted the list to the committee. The issue was raised during discussion on "The Constitution (Twenty-first Amendment) Bill, 2012" for the purpose of increasing pension of widows of judges from 50 percent to 75 percent.
The members of the Committee stressed the officials of the Law Ministry to present details of the current salaries and perks and privilege of the judges of Supreme Court and high courts. Pervez Khan Advocate of ANP aggressively said that Law Ministry should present details of salaries and privileges of superior judges to the Committee. "I want the list right now," he said. On the insistence of the members, the official of the Law Ministry presented the details.
According to the detailed list, the salary of the Chief Justice of Pakistan is Rs 4,48,221, superior judicial allowance Rs 1,96,219, house rent Rs 68,000 if official residence not provided, medical allowance @ 15 percent of the salary. About the privileges, Chauffer driven car with 600 liters petrol, free medical treatment along with family and rent free residence maintained by the government with provision of electricity, gas and water.
Similarly, salary of a judge of Supreme Court is Rs 4,23,414, superior judicial allowance Rs 1,96,219, house rent Rs 68,000 if official residence not provided and medical allowance @ 15 percent of salary. While the privileges of a judge of Supreme Court are same as mentioned above for the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
The salary of the Chief Justice High Court is Rs 4,15,424, superior judicial allowances Rs 1,56,975, house rent Rs 65,000 if official residence not provided and medical allowance @ 15 percent of salary. While about the privileges, Chauffer driven car with 500 liters petrol, free medical treatment along with family and rent free residence maintained by the government with provision of electricity, gas and water.
Similarly, salary of a judge of High Court is Rs 3,99,447, superior judicial allowances Rs 1,56,975, house rent Rs 65,000 if official residence not provided and medical allowance @ 15 percent of salary. The privileges of a judge of High Court are same as mentioned above of the Chief Justice for High Court.
