At least 13 persons including three family members and two activists of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) were killed in separate incidents of violence in the metropolis, here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, a man and his two sons were killed while another sustained injures in a drive-by shooting at Pan Mandi area in the limits of Risala police station.
The deceased have been identified as Muhammad Raza, 60, his sons Kamil Raza, 35 and Abbas Raza, 45 while Ali Raza son of Barkat Ali is injured. Police said the victims, who used to run traditional spice shop at Jodia Bazar, were targeted when they were on way to home from shop. Police suspected that the victims, who belonged to Shiite community, might have been murdered over sectarian ground.
Tension prevailed at Numaish and Solider Bazar areas on arrival of the dead bodies at Numaish Imam Bargah where people took to streets and suspended all commercial and social activities. Workers of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) staged sit-in at Numaish while miscreants resorted to heavy aerial firing. They torched a mini bus at Solider Bazaar. No case was registered till filing of this report.
In another incident, three unidentified armed men riding two bikes opened indiscriminate fire on two riders at sector 10/5 Surjani Town. Resultantly, both victims, who have been identified as Riaz, 45 son of Abdul Ghaffar and Yaqoob, 25 son of Hafiz Muhammad Sharif, sustained bullet wounds and died on spot.
Following these killings, tension prevailed in the area where all shops and markets were closed. The bodies were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for legal formalities. Police said the deceased Riaz and Yaqoob, who were the residents of Surjani Town, were active workers of MQM. No case was registered till filing of this report.
18-year-old Nasir son of Akhtar Ali was killed while Salman, 22 sustained bullet injuries when armed riders opened indiscriminate gunshots at Gujjar Dairy Shop located at Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town. The body and the injured were transported to ASH for post mortem and treatment. Police said the motive behind the incident was yet to be ascertained while victims, who were labourers by profession, were the residents of Yousuf Goth. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A strangulated body of a young girl was found from the bushes near Gulshan Society in the limits of Shah Latif police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while she was strangulated after being raped. The body was moved to Edhi morgue after legal formalities at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). No case was registered till filing of this report.
A bullet-riddled body of a youth, who was later identified by his brother-in-law as Amir Ali, 32 son of Akhtar Ali, was found from Sector 33-E of Korangi no 2 1/2. Police said the deceased was a driver by profession and residing at house No R-555. Police said he was kidnapped when he left his home for work last Monday morning. The body was later handed over to his heirs. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A bullet-riddled body stuffed in a sack was recovered from Lyari Expressway in the limits of Pak Colony police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while he appeared to be in mid-20s. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A 25-year-old unknown man was shot dead by armed men when he was drinking water from a roadside water-dispenser located at Ranchor Line in the limits of Garden police station. Police said the motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained while all victims were the residents of same area. Another man namely Muhammad Siddique son of Kala Khan was gunned down near his residence at Korangi, 100 Quarters in the limits of Zaman Town police station.
Police said the victim might have been killed over personal enmity, as he had no affiliation with any political or religious party. No case was registered till filing of this report. Two persons namely Sajid son of Rasool Gul and Shafiq son of Babu Rasheed got injured when unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on them. Both were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK) where Sajid succumbed to his injures during treatment. Adil son of Zaheer, who got bullet injuries and was found in a sack on September 20, 2012 at Jamshed Quarter police limits, succumbed to his injures during treatment at CHK.
