Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Information and chairman, Oversight Committee on Implementation of 18th Constitutional Amendment, Mian Iftikhar Hussein has demanded early handing over of the assets of the devolved departments to the provinces. The demand was made during a meeting of the committee held here with Provincial Minister Mian Iftikhar Hussein in the chair.
Besides, members of the committee Barrister Arshad Abdullah Minister for Law and Adnan Khan Wazir MPA, also attended by the administrative secretaries of the devolved departments while Senator Afrasiab Khattak and Bashir Ahmad Khan attended the meeting on special invitation.
Mian Iftikhar Hussein has warned the federal government to abstain from withdrawal of powers delegated to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment as it was against the spirit of the said amendment and any such move would be tolerated strongly resisted.
The Chairman of the committee on this occasion showed displeasure over the slow progress with regard to the adoption and reformation of laws and directed the concerned quarters to expedite the process without any further delay. He also stressed the need for formation of policies of each department in the public interest. The meeting decided the creation of a law cell for expediting spade work on the legislation process which would complete its work within a month. The Secretary IPC has also been directed to hold a special meeting with administrative secretaries of the devolved departments to devise a future strategy. Mian Iftikhar warned that strict action would be taken against delay on implementation of the 18th Constitutional Amendment.
