National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) on Wednesday announced extension in the tenure of Pakistan Steel CBA for another year and now the present CBA will hold office till June 22, 2013. This decision was announced by Chaudhry Shaukat Nawaz Goraya, Registrar Trade Union NIRC, Lahore bench after detailed hearing of case.
Two unions of Pakistan Steel had moved NIRC for a referendum. Peoples Unity demanded one-year extension under IRA 2012. According to Peoples Unity - the CBA - it has majority in the PSM having support of over of 5,000 workers and, therefore, under section 19 of (sub-section 11) of IRA-2012, its tenure should be enhanced for one more year. The CBA claimed that it has got 8,665 votes in the last referendum held on 2010, while the other union had failed to show the workers' strength.
