Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered the Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to hand over the charge of investigations into Hajj scam to Hussain Asghar. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was hearing the suspension case of Hussain Asghar.
Malik Sher Afzal, Joint Secretary Establishment Division, informed the bench that Hussain Asghar, former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gilgit-Baltistan, had been transferred back to Islamabad and was facing departmental inquiry for not complying with Supreme Court orders. He said that Ashgar had been posted in the FIA. The Establishment Division in July suspended IGP Gilgit-Baltistan Hussain Asghar for defying the Supreme Court orders.
Hussain Asghar, the then Director FIA, who had been investigating the Hajj corruption case with the entire satisfaction of the apex court and collected important evidence against the accused of Hajj scam, was appointed IGP Gilgit-Baltistan after ex-DG FIA Malik Iqbal wrote a letter to Interior Ministry. Later, Sohail Ahmed, ex-Establishment Secretary, on court's direction, cancelled the transfer of Hussain Asghar. Later, the hearing was adjourned till October 28.
