KARACHI: Members of central core committee of the United Business Group (UBG) unanimously elected young business leader SM Tanveer as the patron-in-chief of the group.

The committee’s meeting was held on Saturday and was hosted by UBG Chairman Shahzad Ali Malik. Businessmen from all over Pakistan participated in the meeting.

The position of the patron-in-chief was lying vacant ever since the death of SM Muneer, who was the father of SM Tanveer.

According to UBG’s Central Spokesperson Gulzar Feroze, Shehzad Malik, UBG President Zubair Tufail, Riazuddin Sheikh and former president of the FPCCI Abdul Rauf Alam were present at the meeting.

Engr Daru Khan, Ghazan Farbulor, former senior vice president of FPCCI Khalid Tawab, Hanif Gohar, Zafar Bakhtauri, Amjad Chaudhry, Malik Sohail Hussain, Abdul Rauf Mukhtar and others expressed their views at the meeting. Former chairman of APTMA Gohra Ijaz, Ahmad Chinoy, Zahid Iqbal Chaudhry, Atif Ikram Sheikh, Manzoorul Haq Malik, Haji Atta-ur-Rehman, Amir Atta Bajwa, Dr Nauman Butt, Haji Afzal, Mian Zahid Hussain, Momin Ali Malik, Muhammad Yasin, Mian Zafar Iqbal, Pirnazem Hussain, Khawaja Zarrar, Jawad Kazmi, Aziz-ur-Rahman Chan, Qazi Muhammad Akbar, Mumtaz Sheikh, Chaudhry Rashid Hameed and other business leaders also participated.

SM Tanveer thanked members of the UBG’s central core committee and Sindh core committee for electing him as the UBG’s patron unopposed. He said his appointment to the post is a great honour for him as his father served the business community for years in this position.

“I will not only keep the UBG united but make it active across the country as before. We will bring back the disgruntled people... We need to serve the business community,” he said.

“We have to find out their problems from them and convey them to the government. The FPCCI has to be made an authentic, strong and active institution once again so that the financial crisis there can end.”

Zubair Tufail expressed the hope that SM Tanveer will lead the group “from strength to strength”. During the last three years the problems of the business community could not be solved by the FPCCI and the current ruling group had failed to represent the business community effectively.

“But our group will once again come to power and make the federation chamber strong and stable,” he added.

Shahzad Malik expressed the hope that SM Tanveer will be able to keep the business community united like his father.

Khalid Tawab and Hanif Gohar said that the UBG Sindh Core Committee had the honour of nominating SM Tanveer as the Patron General before the central core committee.
