ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) vice-chairman expressed concern over the press release issued by seven members of the Council out of a total of its 23 members on April 18, 2023.
PBC vice-chairman Haroonur Rashid in a statement issued by the Bar Office on Wednesday stated that the press release was an individualistic and minority view, and therefore, did not represent the stance taken by the PBC.
“I reiterate the principled stance taken in the Resolution passed during the meeting of the Pakistan and Provincial/Islamabad Bar Councils, High Court Bars and Supreme Court Bar Association held on 17-04-2023.”
He said the press release issued by the minority members of the PBC prima facie seemed to be issued in haste as it mentioned that there were 156 Bar Councils instead of the total of six Bar Councils including four provincial, one ICT and the PBC.
He further stated that the majority of cabinet members of the Supreme Court Bar Association i.e. 10 out of 17 had supported the stance taken at the Lawyers Representative Conference held on April 17, 2023.
The entire legal fraternity stands firmly with the Rule of law and upholding the Constitution. The aforementioned press release amounts to a minority dictating the majority.
