ISLAMABAD: Minister of State for Petroleum Dr Musadik Malik on Friday said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had announced the establishment of an oil refinery with a cost between $10 and $14 billion.

In a press conference, Malik said the federal government had been focusing on a new energy policy which would focus on new energy resources from LPG, LNG, and solar.

The policy would also promote energy conservation to ensure sustainable development, he added.

The minister further stressed the new policy would end the monopolistic tactics of a few oil marketing companies that had been exploiting consumers by charging exorbitant prices than the recommended government policy.

This would also encourage a competitive environment among companies, which would lead to affordable prices for consumers.

Landlords and building owners would also no longer be able to exploit tenants by forcing them to pay high energy bills for privately supplied energy resources.

The government, he said, had made it possible to obtain oil from Russia at discounted prices, unlike the previous government which had failed to do so.

He also advised that people should adopt an energy conservation culture not just for themselves, but also for future generations. The minister said the new refinery would create new jobs and reduce Pakistan’s dependence on imported fuel.

It will also help boost the country’s economy by increasing energy production and reducing the cost of production for industries, he added.

Economic Assassination - Loans for projects that make us rely on imports perpetually. Instead of loans for hydel or solar or wind or nuclear energy generation the imported govt serves its true masters

It is advised to our PM that it your duty to launch such programs... Million of our Pakistani students are MPhil or PHD or Graduated. Please focus on their future also . PM are fitting with opponents in every government. So leave corrupt system and focus on country situations. Other wise you should be answerable to Allah Subhan WaTalla...and ALLAH Subhan WaTalla's is great and do us justice... We appreciate to him in this matter....

Seems Minister is out of his mind, where is power supplied directly to house holds other then KE or Disco's.... Minister better should stop this ameer gharib bull shit and instead put there institutions in order where inefficiency and looses are the key to energy prices burden on those paying... Further, why PARCO has to ditch it's coastal Refinery projectbin 2020 and did not restart.?? Project approved since 2006...Betyervto be on ground instead of these public consumption boggeys

We have successfully determined our right direction. From now onwards, our focus should be consolidation and implementation, which is our weakest area. We need to set our long term goals and very vigilant short term monitoring system.

First fuel subsidy non starter plan to appease voters, now this rubbish of diverting gas from ameer households to gharib... Can the minister talk practical measures instead of such gimmicks. Further, what happened to PARCO's coastal Refinery 10MTPA project, approved in 2006, FEED started in 2020 but stopped..??? Since when Pakistan is a lucrative market imported crude refining well above to requiments.. Please get old refineries upgraded or shut them.

To meet the energy requirements Pakistan should work on Iran Pakistan gas pipeline. If India can import oil and gas from Iran why not Pakistan?

Imran Khan acted more like the prime minister of Afghanistan. He got carried away and ridiculed America. But now he is trying to mend fence. Keep trying, may be you will be in America's good books, once again.

First there was Refinery announced during PTI tenure by KSA, Chinese, and UAE... Now the same old song by PDM govt, hype of KSA Refinery in Gwadar, now it's Chinese.. Yet Chinese looking into Karachi too... Enf result, nothing would happen... Please restart Parco on hold Coastal Refinery project where GoP has 60% share instead of these bogeys
