The Karachi Port handled 128,792 tonnes of cargo comprising 98,848 tonnes of import cargo and 29,944 tonnes of export cargo including 5,143 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 98,848 tonnes comprised 33,250 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,593 tonnes of general cargo; 1,137 tonnes of DAP and 58,868 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 29,944 tonnes comprised 24,053 tonnes of containerised cargo; 415 tonnes of general cargo; 2,776 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,650 tonnes of cement; 1,126 tonnes of sugar and 2,700 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,143 containers comprising 2,275 containers import and 2,868 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 887 of 20's and 590 of 40's loaded while 174 of 20's and 17 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 689 of 20's and 265 of 40's loaded containers while 503 of 20's and 573 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Two ships namely Amanda and Paris Trader carrying one container ship and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz Santa Rafeala, Jolly, APL Brisbane, Electa and Golden Gion with three container ships and two oil tankers respectively are currently at the berths. Two ships namely APL Brisbane and Phoenix Admiral carrying one container ship and one oil tanker respectively sailed out to sea on Thursday, while three ships namely Jolly, Electa and Nadeem carrying one container ship, one oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively are expected to sail on Friday.
Two vessels viz OOCL Busan and APL Seattle with two container ships are due to arrive on Friday, while six vessels viz BSL Gujrat, Lantau Arrow, Kota Akbar, Wan Hai-603, MT Quetta and Esraa with four containers ships, one crude oil tanker and one project cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Saturday.
The total export cargo of 35,980 tonnes includes 5,447 tonnes of cement and 30,533 tonnes of containerised cargo. A total number of 3,669 containers comprising 1,473 containers import and 1,607 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday. A container ship namely CV CMA CGM Wagner sailed out to sea on Thursday morning, while another ship namely MV Gas Chem Pacific with chemicals is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of seven vessels viz CV CMA CGM Wagner, CV CMA CGM Ravel, MV Ismail Deep, MV Fisher-D, MV Sea Star Cosmos, MV Shan Dong Hai Tong and MV Gas Chem Pacific are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, iron ore, fertiliser and chemicals respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as three ships namely CMA CGM Eiffel, Ambelos and Framura with containers and furnace oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Three container ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Lantau Arrow and CV Michaelas are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Thursday. A container ship namely CV Clementina is due to arrive on Friday.
