The Karachi Port handled 87,394 tonnes of cargo comprising 53,531 tonnes of import cargo and 33,863 tonnes of export cargo including 3,126 loaded & empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Friday. The total import cargo of 53,531 tonnes comprised 18,970 tonnes of containerised cargo; 13 tonnes of general cargo; 1,226 tonnes of soyabean seeds and 33,322 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 33,863 tonnes comprised 21,159 tonnes of containerised cargo; 555 tonnes of general cargo; 10,099 tonnes of bulk cargo: 1,244 tonnes of cement; 7,648 tonnes of loose bulk cement; 1,207 tonnes of sugar and 2,050 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 3,126 containers comprising 1,221 containers import and 1,905 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Friday.
The brakeup of imported containers shows 565 of 20's and 328 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 782 of 20's and 255 of 40's loaded containers while 37 of 20's and 288 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
Five ships namely Santa Rafeala, APL Brisbane, Electa, Phoenix Admiral and Le Tai carrying two container ships, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. Five vessels viz TS Pusan, Tessa, Tabernacle Prince, Sea Merchant and Lodestar Genesis with two container ships, two bulk cargo ships and one oil tanker respectively are currently at the berths.
A container ship namely Tessa sailed out to sea on Friday, while five ships namely UASC Shuwaikh, TS Pusan, Tabernacle Prince, Lodestar Genesis and Nadeem carrying two container ships, one bulk cargo ship, one oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively are expected to sail on Saturday.
Five vessels viz BSL Gujrat, Kota Akbar, Wan Hai-603, MT Quetta and Esraa with three containers ships, one crude oil tanker and one project cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Saturday, while three vessels viz Hyundai Bangkok, Leo Perdana and Pacific Leader with two containers ships and one coal carrier respectively are due to arrive on Sunday.
Two container ships namely CV CMA CGM Eiffel and CV Michaela-5 sailed out to sea on Friday morning, while two more ships namely CV Lantau Arrow and MV Ismail Deep with containers and cement are expected to sail on the same day afternoon. A total number of seven vessels viz CV CMA CGM Eiffel, CV Michaela-5, CV Lantau Arrow, MV Ismail Deep, MV Fisher-D, MV Sea Star Cosmos and MV Shan Dong Hai Tong are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement, iron ore and fertiliser respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as four ships namely Clementina, Ambelos, Framura and Al-Salam-II with containers, furnace oil and diesel oil respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. Two container ships namely CV Clementina and MT Al-Salam-II with containers and diesel oil respectively are expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal and FOTCO Oil Terminal respectively on Friday. A container ship namely CV MSC Luna is due to arrive on Saturday.
