Former Member Provincial Assembly (MPA) from Multan Syed Rafaqat Gilani on Thursday announced that he is parting ways with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Aaj News reported.
Addressing a press conference in Multan, Gilani said he would continue to serve the people of his constituency.
He also condemned the events of May 9 and demanded the harshest punishment for the culprits.
In response to a question regarding whether he was pressurised, Gilani said that he had “no type of pressure on him” and had taken this decision on the “call of his conscience.”
Earlier today, PTI’s two former MPAs from Kohistan, Mohammad Didar Khan, and Mufti Abdul Ghaffar Shah, parted ways with the PTI over May 9 events.
Didar Khan was elected MPA from PK-25 Upper Kohistan, while Mufti Abdul Ghaffar Shah was elected PK-26, Lower Kohistan, in the 2018 general elections.
“We both have decided to quit the PTI and would contest the upcoming general elections as independent candidates,” Khan said.
Shah also told reporters that they would jointly work for the welfare of the people of their respective districts.
In Dera Ismail Khan, a significant group of the PTI, including some close to former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur, also quit the party for the same reason.
On Sunday, PTI MPA from Sargodha Nadia Aziz quit party and condemned the attacks on military installations. She clarified that she was not part of any protest on May 9.
She also demanded that perpetrators should be brought to justice.
“I have always done violence-free politics. There is a dire need to respect women,” she asserted.
