Supreme Court on Saturday summoned Interior Minister Rehman Malik on October 3 to produce a list of parliamentarians and members of Provincial Assemblies having dual citizenship.
The court issued notice to the Interior Minister for his reported press conferences on September 20 and 21 wherein he had stated that there were many dual nationality holder parliamentarians and that if he was asked by the Supreme Court or by Government, he could provide list of parliamentarians and members of provincial assemblies who enjoy dual citizenship.
The court directed him to appear before the court on October 3 to assist it by providing a list of parliamentarian having dual citizenship. The court directed its office that along with notices, copies of the news items carried by various newspapers as had been noted in order dated 22nd September, 2012 be also supplied to him.
The court also directed Secretary Information to submit a transcript of interior minister's press conference in which he made the above statement on or before 2nd October, 2012. The court also issued notices to Begum Shehnaz Sheikh, former Minister of State for Health and PML-Q MNA, who has been accused of holding dual citizenship. The court also issued notice to Ghulam Mujtaba Rai, MNA, to clarify whether or not he was a Canadian national.
