Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Saturday hit back at Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, saying he is either totally ignorant of the country's Constitution or misquoting facts for obvious reasons.
In a rejoinder to the JUI-F chief's remarks against the leader of the opposition, Chaudhry Nisar advised him to be careful while using the term 'blackmail' because people of the country were aware of politicians whose politics always remained self-centered by way of blackmailing tactics.
"Unfortunately, Maulana sahib's entire political career is full of opportunistic politics, u-turns, wheeling and dealing: his latest statement seems to be a move in the same direction," he maintained. He also blasted the JUI-F chief for his criticism on the 20th constitutional amendment despite the fact that his party fully supported it. He also came harsh on the Maulana for what he blamed him for distorting and fabricating facts by confusing a legal and constitutional matter - the consultation between leader of the house (Prime Minister) and leader of the opposition on the neutral caretaker set up for holding free and transparent general election.
"To confuse and misrepresent the consultation between the leader of house and leader of the opposition, which is both legal and constitutional in the nature to the informal interaction which the leader of the opposition is having with all opposition parties, amounts to a total distortion of the situation on the ground," Nisar added.
The leader of the opposition also questioned the JUI-F's politics, saying it was strange that Maulana Fazlur Rehman occupies the opposition benches in the National Assembly, but constantly supports the government and criticises the opposition. "At least dredge up some moral courage to clarify whether you are with the government or the opposition", he asked the JUI-F chief.
Chaudhry Nisar further said that it was ironical that the JUI-F chief was targeting PML-N on the issue on which there was a complete consensus in parliament, while he seemed to be all right with the government's decision to reopen the Nato supplies against whom he had threatened to launch a mass movement. Maulana had criticised the PML-N's consensus over the caretaker Prime Minister, terming it useless and an untimely endeavour and describing it as mere political lobbying of PML-N to influence the coming elections.
