It is simply amazing to watch the growing number of journalists, TV anchorpersons, presenters and even the newscasters, jumping on to the bandwagon of deserters, quitting jobs, heading to greener pastures and joining other media houses and channels at significantly enhanced remunerations. No problem there, for, it is the right of every individual to choose his or her employer. Channel-hopping seems to be the most competitive national pursuit!
However, what is noteworthy that this trend has not brought about any significant improvement in the quality and substance of the talk shows or programmes these individual are hosting or presenting. It is the same old run of the mill, mundane, quality deficient and hackneyed format that they have been following - nothing new, fresh, imaginative or substantive and to write home about! Even the verbiage of print editorials, guest panellists are the same, the same old faces, ranting, same untenable arguments, tasteless quips and the same uncouth behaviour by the known rowdies, across the political spectrum, to add unpalatable spice or efforts to increase ratings! The only significant, noticeable and blatant change the viewers, of late have been observing, is the conduct, theme and subject matter, being taken up and presented by both the print and electronic media of the country. The big media houses and TV channels are no longer impartial, fair, neutral and non-partisan, barring the minnows. The media, it seems, has fallen into two camps, ie, PPP and PML-N.
