Youm-e-Ashur, the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, is being observed on Saturday across the country to pay homage to the sacrifice rendered by Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.) and his devoted companions in Karbala.

Mourning processions were taken out in all cities and towns, while Ulema and Zakireen highlight the teachings of Hazrat Imam Hussain (R.A.).

Elaborate security arrangements have been made to avoid any untoward incident during the mourning processions.

In Karachi, the main procession departed from Nishtar Park and will conclude at Hussainiyah Iranian Imambargah in the Kharadar area in the evening.

Moreover, Sindh IG Ghulam Nabi Memon has also directed the police to keep a vigilant eye on the shops that were sealed on the procession routes.

In Lahore, the main procession began from Nisar Haveli in the Mohalla Chillah Bibian and will conclude at the Karbala Ghamay Shah Imambargah.

Lahore police have made strict security arrangements for the procession and snipers have been deployed on the roofs of the buildings along the route, as per Radio Pakistan.

Similarly, in Peshawar mourning processions are being taken, while rescue 1122 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has established camps in Jahangir-pura, Kohati, Khanum market, Wadpaga, and Gulbahar.

Medical technicians teams and ambulances are also present with the mourning processions.

In his message, President Dr Arif Alvi said that the incident of Karbala gives a message to Muslims that they should be ready to offer any sacrifice for the promotion of the high values and principles of Islam.

He said on Yaum-e-Ashur, Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) rendered a great sacrifice at Karbala during the battle between truth and falsehood as well as for the protection of Islamic values. This battle was a struggle for the exaltation of Islam, which was characterized by a moral stance and unwavering bravery.

The president said that Imam Hussain’s stance against tyrant ruler Yazid was not for power or revenge, instead, it was a principled stand for justice, protection of Islamic values, and protection of Islamic society from corruption and oppression.

“This courageous act teaches us that we should not bow to oppression and wrongdoing, and raise our voice against injustice, no matter what the cost,” he remarked.

In his message, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the day reminds us that standing against oppression is the moral duty of a Muslim.

“Imam Husain’s sacrifice teaches us the priceless lesson of unshakable faith, righteousness, and justice, “ Radio Pakistan quoted the PM as saying.
