FAISALABAD: Federal Minister for Interior Rana Sana Ullah has said that the Government was equipping the students with modern technology so that they can play their effective role in the development of the country and achieve the best future possible.
He expressed these views while distributing laptops among the students under the Prime Minister Youth Laptop Scheme held at University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF). At the ceremony Laptops were distributed among the students from UAF, Government College University Faisalabad, National Textile University and Faisalabad Medical University on merit basis.
Federal Minister Rana Sana Ullah said that the laptop scheme was started in 2008 during the regime of then Chief Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif. He said that in this third phase of the scheme, 1 lac laptops are being distributed to students across the country. He said that due to the laptop scheme, the country’s IT industry is developing rapidly due to IT trained manpower.
The country is earning millions of dollars every year through free-lancing. He said that an endowment fund for deserving students worth two billion had been established in 2008, which was increased to 20billion in 2018. He expressed his determination that they intend to take it to 100 billion in the coming years.
He said that Danish School was launched for the deserving students equipped with the best educational facilities and if they get a chance, Danish school will be opened in every tehsil.
He said that Pakistani doctors and engineers are providing their services across the World and they are in high demand. He said that the government has provided interest-free loans to sixty thousand youths so that they can become entrepreneurs instead of looking for jobs.
On this occasion, UAF Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Iqrar Ahmad Khan said that the University of Agriculture Faisalabad had started work on ICT-based precision agriculture under the Center for Advanced Studies in 2014 and now the technology has taken root at the national level.
He said that 35000 Pakistani students are currently studying in China, in which the number of students of UAF is more than the students of other Pakistani universities. He said that twenty eight thousand students of UAF have benefited from the laptop scheme so far and in the third phase of the scheme, 2600 students of the University are being given laptops. Because of IT Pakistan earns billions of rupees in foreign exchange every year.
The Federal Minister inaugurated the International Seed Testing (IST) Lab in the University. He also distributed cheques to the farmers under the ongoing soybean project in UAF.
