Resuming the hearing of a plea relating to provision of funds for Thar Coal project, Supreme Court on Thursday summoned Secretary Planning Commission, Secretary Petroleum and Natural Resources, Secretary Sindh Coal and Gas/Energy to appear before the court on October 18. A four-judge special bench led by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard a petition filed by Barrister Zafarullah.
He had urged the court for directions to federal and Sindh government to fund Thar Coal Project to generate electricity. During the course of proceedings, Barrister Zafarullah told the bench that a Rs 95 billion had been allocated for the Thar Coal project. However, he added less than 10 percent of the total amount had been disbursed so far.
