Customs officers' at Benazir Bhutto International Airport in Islamabad on Friday foiled an attempt to smuggle 9.2 kilograms of heroin to Belgium and arrested a man and his partner. On Friday, customs officers at Islamabad airport were tipped off about the smuggling attempt. The customs authorities constituted special teams for surveillance to intercept the suspect. A surveillance team immediately took the suspect into custody.
The examination of passenger's baggage showed the presence of drugs concealed underneath the lining of his two trolley bags. Detailed search led to the recovery of 9.2 kilograms of heroin from the baggage of the passenger. During interrogation, it was found that he had an accomplice in the city residing near the Faizabad Interchange.
The passenger was asked by the interrogation team to cooperate and call his accomplice at the airport for help. The passenger called his accomplice to come to the airport. The staff was deputed at entry points of the airport and the accomplice was also taken into custody the moment he arrived the airport. The heroin has been seized under the Customs Act, 1969 and a criminal case has been registered against two men and their accomplices. Raids are being conducted by the Customs Authorities in the twin cities to arrest their other accomplices, sources added.
