Various social experts during a seminar stressed on the need of social innovation for the development of society. This seminar in the wake of World Habitat Day was held at a local hotel here in collaboration with HANDS, NED University architecture and planning department and UN Habitat.
On the occasion, Professor Gaffar Billoo, Chairman HANDS in his speech drew the attention of the participants towards the need for social innovation for the development and mapping of organised construction plans with basic human facilities. He said that huge problems have arisen by ignoring such things. He said that HANDS is providing shelters and entrepreneurship in the rural areas in order to help the people.
Javed Jabbar, founder President Bannhbeli (NGO) in his speech focused on the need for model cities with fresh water, airy spaces, neat water and sewerage systems, proper communication facilities and basic service structure. He said an overcrowded city affects negatively the mental growth of the people, also hurting the peaceful environment. Professor Noman Ahmed, Chairman Architecture and planning department NED University said that for better future and prosperity, people leave the rural areas and move to the cities.
Negligence of municipal laws by the authorities create problems, the concerned municipal authorities should work in an organised way to create an ideal environment, he added. Murtaza Noonari, Youth representative UN Habitat Pakistan, Engineer Iqbal Ahmend Qureshi from Rotary Humanitarian Trust Pakistan and Inayatullah Qureshi From Planning and development department participated in an open discussion about bringing changes and building opportunities. Sara Akhtar Khan NED University, Dr Aslam Khan Chief Operating Executive HANDS also presented their observations and insight into the theme "Changing Cities, Building Opportunities".
