ISLAMABAD: The Establishment Division has issued a notification of new working hours for government offices. According to the notification, the working hours of the government offices will be from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm from Monday to Friday. 1 pm to 1.30 pm will be lunch/prayer break.

The announcement of the government’s decision regarding new working hours was made by the interim government.

The minister had said that the government decided to keep Saturday a holiday but the office hours have been extended, so all government employees will now work from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm instead of the previous timing 9 am- 5pm.

I think a much better option would be 7 am to 2 pm, 6 days a week, like we used to have in some offices many years ago. This is more appropriate for our climate and also gives people time for a siesta, and half a day to attend to other domestic responsibilities. Blindly following European timings in our climate doesn't make sense.

Best option is to close 90% departments for good as they are nothing but a hive for corrupt and a drain on taxpayers .

Reducing number of days has a purpose i.e save fuel and electricity. I would say make is 4 days with 8 to 5 as Fri is a low productivity day anyway.

@Tariq Qurashi, but ever thought of having a look out of the window at 7 .roads are empty and public does not seem to exist .
