The interest free loans repayable in two years were advanced to the jobless technical youths for setting up of small scale businesses under the self-employment scheme. Former Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool, who also heads a NGO 'Jazba Foundation', told APP on Sunday that the all 55 beneficiaries of interest free loans, technically sound, were selected by a panel of experts on the sole recommendation of the TEVTA.
He said that loans were given in different fields even also to girls in dress making, sewing, beauty parlour, designing and computer lab. He said that free of charge small machinery and equipment were also distributed among the qualified unemployed youths for business. He said, "We have so far disbursed a sum of Rs 55 million among the poor segments of the society under the self-employment scheme and flood affectees were also provided relief goods in flood hit areas across the country. About the funds, he said, "We arrange donations from the members of the foundation and philanthropists". All the expenditures are properly audited by a highly qualified chartered accountant and all the people attached with the foundation are rendering services voluntarily.
Khalid Maqbool said that the entire amount of donations was disbursed among the needy by the donors, which reflected the highest degree of transparency.
