LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) to explain the arrest of Khadija Shah in a third case after bail in two cases on Tuesday (today).
The court hearing a contempt petition, showed concern over the manners in which Khadija Shah had been kept in jail despite bail granted to her in the cases. The court asked the petitioner’s counsel to challenge the physical remand of his client separately if the trial court granted the same to the police.
Earlier, the CCPO told the court that there was a development in police investigation after the arrest of three absconding suspects including a chef of Ms Khadija Shah on October 18. He said the police investigated the petitioner in the case with the permission of the trial court. Later, he said the petitioner had been arrested in a case of torching police vehicles near Rahat Bakery Chowk, Cantonment in light of the statements of the arrested suspects. He said all was being done strictly in accordance with law.
The investigating officer also told the court that the chef disclosed that Khadija Shah convened several meetings of the PTI workers at her home and planned attacks on the Corps Commander house and other premises in case of the arrest of Imran Khan.
The court observed that such developments in the investigation would never end if police have decided to keep a suspect behind the bars.
The counsel of Khadija Shah said the IGP had told a division bench that only two cases of attack on Corps Commander House and Askari Tower were registered against the petitioner. He said the petitioner was behind the bars for six months but the police made her arrest in the third case only after the LHC granted her bail in the two cases.
Meanwhile an Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) denied physical remand of Khadija Shah in third case related to May 09 riots.
