We will get a pretty good idea of contribution to income tax if FBR gives a number on the percentage of salaried class versus businesses, retailers, etc., who paid these taxes.

2.9M filers vs 250M population in latest census. 1.16% is a joke.

In a population of 250M, with average household of 7 person becomes 35M households in the country. If 50% are poor enough that they dont pay taxes, even though over 17.5M should have filed the returns, assuming atleast one earner in the family. Government should specifically focus on increasing tax net and impose heavy penalties on non tax payers. How much would we rely on salaried classes to pay taxes. There should not be more then 15% tax on salaried class looking at the current economic and inflationary situation. There is a need of increasing taxes from business class, Commercial Banks and corporate sector and impose additional taxes on non tax payers.

FBR officers should visit each union council to register people for incone tax returns. Especially they should visit shops on main roads and inside the city. This is just similar to polio eradication campaign.
