Opposition leader in National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Tuesday urged Supreme Court to take up a petition that had challenged the appointment of Admiral Fasih Bukhari (Retd) as Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB). Nisar had made federal government, Cabinet Division and Admiral Fasih Bukhari (Retd) as respondents. He pleaded that a legal procedure was not observed in the appointment.
He urged the court to bar the Chairman NAB from working till a decision on the case. Filing a civil miscellaneous application, Nisar prayed the court for early hearing of the matter on October 17. Lawyer Muhammad Akram Sheikh will appear on behalf of the petitioner.
"The constitutional petition is pending before the apex court along with an application for grant of an interim injunction, which has not been fixed yet," Nisar contended. Citing various judgements of the Supreme Court Nisar said: "Only those should be put in office who enjoy impeccable reputation and who could uphold principles for fair, transparent, just, legal, equitable and Constitutional accountability of individuals and entities involved in corruption and corrupt practices."
"The appointment of the Chairman NAB being in contravention of the law will affect the constitutional rights of the whole nation the liberty and due process of law which need to be protected by the Supreme Court and the case may kindly be considered at its earliest, otherwise the whole nation shall suffer an irreparable loss," Chaudhry Nisar prayed.
