Baldia fire victims: Jamaat-i-Islami distributes cheques among kin of victims
Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) Chief Syed Munawar Hassan distributed cheques among the family members of Baldia factory fire victims during a ceremony held here at Idara-e-Noor-e-Haq on Wednesday. The JI Chief distributed an amount of Rs 5 million among 200 affected families who had lost their loved ones in a factory blaze in the metropolis.
Munawar also announced that his party would bear the educational expenses of the children of fire victims. He said that each child would be given Rs 2,500 a month to support his/her education. He said that the JI would continue its monetary assistance to the female children of the victims up to matriculation. Munawar said that the amount given as compensation was not sufficient to meet their expenses, but hoped that other donors would also come forward and support the families. He criticised the ruling Pakistan People's Party (PPP) for ignoring the families of fire victims. He said that the government's role during the tragedy was very poor.
