The Special Ministerial Committee on Balochistan constituted by the Prime Minister has proposed the constitution of a committee for making diplomatic efforts to counter and expose foreign interference in the province, if any.
This was stated by Minister for Information Qamar Zaman Kaira here on Thursday while responding to a question at a news conference after the Cabinet meeting. The Minister said that the special committee submitted its recommendations on Balochistan to the Cabinet meeting presided over by Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. The Minister said that the recommendations would be further discussed with all stakeholders.
The Federal Cabinet also decided to make public the report of the special committee on Balochistan, he added. Giving details of some of the important recommendations, Kaira said the special committee on Balochistan recommended that Frontier Constabulary should be under the control of provincial government, besides constitution of a committee to bring about sectarian harmony in the province.
The committee also recommended to ensure better co-ordination with the province and suggested for assigning the responsibility to an Additional Secretary of grade-20. To a question, he said that the committee of which he was also a member held extensive consultation with the provincial government as well as ordinary citizens to know about their view points in finalising recommendations about Balochistan province.
The special committee, he said, also recommended to expedite ongoing mega development projects in the province by releasing funds for Kachhi Canal, Rattodero-Gwadar road and other projects for linking Gwadar Port with rest of the country. The Minister maintained that the federal government has already released funds for Kacchi Canal project and funds for other projects would also be released for early completion of the mega projects in the province. He said that the government was fully sympathetic to the excesses in Balochistan but can't do anything about those who are unwilling to recognise the country's flag.
